13 December 2000: Eircell, Ireland's largest Mobile Operator, implements voice based email service from Jinny Software
Dublin, 13 December 2000 – Today Jinny Software announced the addition of its enhanced streaming voice email engine to Eircell’s www.e-merge.ie portal. The email engine allows the operator’s one million plus customers to listen to emails in real time and to respond to them through voice. Integrating voice as a delivery channel underpins Jinny’s multichannel philosophy, where customers access information through a host of devices – voice, mobile devices, fixed Internet portals. Eircell is the first operator in Ireland and one of the first in Europe to offer such a service, delivering even greater convenience to its customer base whether they are in Ireland or on the move worldwide.
The service utilizes streaming techniques from the fixed Internet world to enable the provision of an improved range of services in the mobile Internet world. It is unique in that not only can customers listen to emails but they can also manage them. Most importantly, users can reply directly by voice as an alternative to using the mobile phone keypad. The spoken reply is received by the original sender as an attachment to the email sent from their PC. Customers can also set up filters so that only urgent or relevant email notifications are received whilst on the move.
“This is just the start of a move in mobile communications from text based to streaming media services, a market that is expected to be worth $2.5 billion by 2004 according to Jupiter Research,” comments Roy Zakka, CEO and Founder of Jinny Software. “The wireless industry is moving from text messages to picture messaging, video messaging and eventually to full blown streaming media on mobile devices. Our development team has focused on integrating and enhancing our voice channel for some time and our product will, we believe, create an essential service going forward for all mobile operators.”
In the Business to Employee (B2E) market segment, the business user can now deal with urgent emails while driving between meetings, whilst stuck in traffic or while travelling abroad – returning to an overcrowded inbox will be a thing of the past. For the consumer, Jinny’s email service makes email accessible to all mobile phone users directly from the handset.
The service was developed by Jinny Software and runs over a dedicated Jinny Gateway within the Eircell network. The streaming technology and improved quality of speech implemented in this latest version of the email engine is an effective example of mCommerce delivering added value to customers on the
move.
“Once again we have helped an operator be first to market with a key service for mobile device users,” added Roy Zakka.
and operates internationally from its Dublin Headquarters, which were established in June 1999. Eircell is one of a growing customer base in the international mobile operator and financial services markets.
