14 March 2000 - Jinny Software wins Euro 1.1M contract to provide WAP-based services to GSM provider, Fastlink
Dublin, 14 March 2000: Jinny Software, leading manufacturer of WAP services, today announces a US$1.1m contract with Jordan-based GSM operator, Fastlink, which will enable Fastlink’s customers to access the Internet with mobile devices.
In this agreement, Jinny Software will provide Fastlink with a suite of products from its JAIMS(TM) family including the WAP Gateway and the Short Messaging Service Centre (SMSC). The future roadmap also includes a Cell Broadcast Centre (CBC), enabling multiple broadcasts to all subscribers of a particular network within a specific cell at a certain point in time.
The JAIMS solution allows Fastlink to offer value-added Internet services over WAP and SMS enabled devices such as PDAs and mobile telephones. It is expected that in a country with low PC and Internet penetration, the concept of providing Internet access to Jordan’s 200,000 plus mobile telephone subscribers will significantly increase Internet penetration, in accordance with the wishes of the King of Jordan to bring the Internet to all citizens. One of the first applications to be delivered will be email directly to the mobile phone, where the subscriber’s phone number becomes their email address and the operator their service provider – in this case MSISDN@fastlink.com.jo .
Chairman and CEO Roy Zakka said: "The key to this service is that this now brings email to all mobile telephone subscribers. In addition customers can subscribe to and administer the service in a variety of ways, such as: via the Internet, a reseller agent, via SMS command, WAP mobile phone or Fastlink’s customer care centre. This, our fifth contract win, is a significant achievement in the company’s aggressive growth strategy.”
Fastlink, Jordon’s only GSM provider, will be launching this service, based on the Jinny Software Platform in June and expects to supply services to 20,000 subscribers at time of launch. These services will be demonstrated for the first time, prior to launch on 28th to 30th March at the 8th Annual American Computer Show.

Jinny Software’s WAP Gateway enhances the company’s core product range of value-added service platforms, the JAIMS Family, designed for Wireless Network Operators. The company stems from 27 years combined experience in the messaging industry, operates internationally from its Dublin Headquarters and also announced at Cannes that it had just been successful in receiving US$3.5 million in funding.
