31 May 2000 - Jinny’s software solution will power Eircell’s e-merge portal, providing customers

Dublin, 31 May 2000: Eircell has chosen the name “e-merge” as the launch pad for its new portal and mobile ISP incorporating mobile messaging solutions designed by Jinny Software. Jinny Software was one of the parties engaged by Eircell to develop the technology infrastructure and software behind Ireland’s first mobile Internet portal, e-merge, launched at Comms2000 in April. Jinny Software designed several of the messaging services on the portal enabling Eircell to provide value added services to its mobile phone customer base thereby increasing customer loyalty.

Stephen Brewer, Chief Executive, Eircell comments:

”We recognise that our customers busy lifestyle requires them to gain access to their personal messages and information services at high speed and on the move. E-merge provides just that facility. E-merge is an exciting development in the mobile communications area within which Jinny Software are leaders in the provision of value added services. We have worked with Jinny on a range of projects and based on this experience they were the ideal partner to deliver key components of the infrastructure and software required for e-merge.”

Roy Zakka, Chairman, Jinny Software, stated:

“E-merge greatly simplifies the mobile phone users’ experience, and the back-end integration which Jinny Software provides, ensures the efficient operation of the portal. Jinny Software is delighted to have been a part of this revolutionary project with Eircell and equally delighted that they have chosen this platform to launch Etrieve, just one of the many messaging solutions we have designed for them.”

One of the services on the new e-merge portal is a user friendly Internet interface that customers can use to click and choose the information services they wish to subscribe to and receive on their mobile phones by SMS. These include up-to-the-minute information bites on news, share prices, business, travel, horoscopes, entertainment, sports, weather, and careers. Other personal messaging services powered by Jinny Software include:

  • Etrieve - an email to voice (you listen to your email) service
  • Email notification – receive a text message when new email arrives into your e-merge account
  • Web based messaging - enabling users to send text messages to Eircell mobile phone users from the Internet
Jinny Software has worked on a range of projects with Eircell. These include a value added services platform, the V2000, the Etrieve platform, an enabler for Unified Messaging, several mobile commerce services including prepaid ATM top-up facility and the AIB mobile banking service. Jinny has also provided consultancy and system integration services on issues relating to the provision of value added services to mobile phones.
