15 February 2000 - Secure WAP 1.1 Gateway will enable 24hr banking over mobile phones

Dublin, 15 February 2000: Following announcements at the GSM World Congress, Cannes, Jinny Software is now working with AIB, Ireland’s largest bank, to implement a pilot WAP gateway.

Jinny Software has just announced the installation of a pilot version of its WAP Gateway in AIB, enabling the bank to run trials. WAP now allows mobile phone users complete access to the Internet, making it possible for banks to offer Internet banking services over the mobile phone. A key consideration for banks in particular is the security of mobile transactions. Jinny Software is the first company to deliver secure WTLS for WAP from Baltimore Technologies. The company’s WAP Gateway offers complete unbroken security from the mobile phone all the way to the Gateway using 128bit encryption.

Jinny Software and AIB have already worked together in conjunction with Eircell in developing a Mobile Banking service based on Eircell’s Short Message Service (SMS). This is due to be launched in March 2000 and will allow AIB customers to access banking details by text message direct to their mobile phones also in a complete secure environment. Unlike WAP, this service is available to the current installed base of phones. Thus Jinny Software is enabling its clients to offer a progressive range of services to all their customers regardless of the type of handset their customers are using.

Jinny Software’s WAP gateway was fully developed in-house and released to market in December 1999, timed for launch with the latest WAP compatible mobile phones. It is WAP 1.1 compliant, and is fully scaleable thus offering an ideal solution for banks, corporates and GSM operators.

Jinny Software’s WAP Gateway enhances the company’s core product range of value-added service platforms, the JAIMS™ Family, designed for Wireless Network Operators. The company stems from 27 years combined experience in the messaging industry, operates internationally from its Dublin Headquarters and also announced at Cannes that it had just been successful in receiving $2.5 million in funding.
