12 April 2000 - Jinny Software’s mobile commerce solution will enable companies of any size to make their Internet based information and services available to mobile phones in complete security
Dublin, 12 April 2000: Today at the Comms 2000 show in RDS Dublin, Jinny Software launched its WAP Appliance(TM), the first Irish Enterprise WAP 1.1 (Wireless Application Protocol) Gateway specifically designed as a mobile commerce solution to enable corporates of all sizes offer Internet based information and services to mobile phones. The Appliance operates in a fully secure environment as transactions are encrypted and users are authenticated. It can service from 1 to 50,000 subscribers allowing SMEs through to large corporate firms offer full WAP services through the technology Jinny Software provides.
Companies will now be able to make corporate and customer information easily and instantly available to their sales representatives and mobile employees as they need it. The WAP Appliance provides a link from their mobile phone to the online information source, such as a company database, product information from a website and so on. However, this is not just limited to employees – any information that a company wishes to make available over their Intranet, Extranet to customers, suppliers or partners can now be accessed directly using the mobile phone.
Information is exchanged in a fully secure setting. Jinny Software is the first company to implement Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS) from Baltimore Technologies into its WAP Gateway using the Telepathyä Toolkit. The result is complete unbroken security from the handset all the way to the Gateway using 128bit encryption. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is also incorporated for enhanced authentication – the user is identified by digital certificates – and non-repudiation, i.e the completion of transactions/purchases.
The WAP Appliance is fast, efficient, and highly cost effective. It can be supplied as a software only solution or be pre-installed on a small server to which the customer simply inputs the Internet Provider address to initiate the service. Jinny Software has already installed its WAP Gateway in Philips Consumer Communications, Fastlink, the Jordanian GSM operator, and France Telecom Mobile in Lebanon.
These will include up-to-the-minute information bites on news, share prices, business news, travel, horoscopes, entertainment, sports news, weather, and jobs all powered by Jinny. The personal messaging services designed by Jinny will include:
Jinny Software’s WAP Gateway was fully developed in-house and released in December 1999, timed for launch with the latest WAP compatible mobile phones. It is WAP 1.1 compliant, and is fully scaleable offering an ideal solution for banks, corporates and GSM operators.
Jinny Software’s WAP Gateway enhances the company’s core product range of value-added service platforms, the JAIMSä Family, designed for Wireless Network Operators. The company stems from 27 years combined experience in the messaging industry, operates internationally from its Dublin Headquarters and announced in February that it secured $3.5 million in funding.
