20 February 2001: Jinny again proves speed to market by delivering Web applications over Voice
Cannes, 20th February 2001: Jinny Software today launched the Jinny VoiceXML Gateway at 3GSM World Congress, “the world’s GSM meeting place” in Cannes, France. The gateway delivers any VoiceXML based Web application over voice to the fixed and mobile phone and is in full compliance with the VoiceXML 1.0 standard as defined by the VoiceXML Forum in May 2000.
Voice continues to be the killer application in Mobile Telephony and is now set to become the killer application in Mobile Data. The Jinny VoiceXML gateway offers the ultimate experience in handsfree control by delivering services and content using the most common user interface of speech and sound Now the user can choose to simply listen and interact with all the services they like to access when on the move, such as calendar, directory assistance, news and email. This platform complements Jinny’s range of Mobile Infrastructure for Operators, ISP’s, MVNOs and enterprises, in its Messaging from the Edge™ family of products.
The Jinny VoiceXML gateway leverages on existing Web and WAP portals as any XML or WML based content is simply converted to VoiceXML and read out to the subscriber. Web applications can now not only be accessed by WAP mobile phones but also by 2G mobile phones and fixed line phones when required..
Mobile operators in particular, together with Jinny, are in a unique position to add value to the services they offer by offering such a natural interface. By implementing the Jinny VoiceXML Gateway another delivery channel is immediately switched on for existing services and content. As a new channel, voice offers the possibility of increasingly differentiated services for the operator’s subscriber base and of increased revenues.
“Jinny helps our Customers discover ‘messaging from the edge’™. This platform release allows our Customers keep the edge on their competition”, commented Roy Zakka CEO and Chairman Jinny Software
The Jinny VoiceXML Gateway builds on open standards in line with the Jinny philosophy of providing non-proprietary platforms. The gateway is designed to full carrier grade and is fully scalable. The Gateway complements Jinny’s already impressive range of Multimedia Messaging platforms, which enable mobile network operators to develop and deliver services and applications by SMS, WAP and now voice. The Jinny VoiceXML gateway is available in several European and Asian languages
