Jinny Software Implement Sms Centre With Jordan’s Leading Gsm Operator

[ Friday, 18th August 2000 ]
Dublin, 18 August 2000: Jinny Software, the one year old Irish based provider of wireless software solutions, announced the launch of its fully implemented Short Messaging Service Centre (SMSC) with Fastlink, Jordan’s leading GSM operator. This follows the US$1.1m landmark deal between Jinny and Fastlink announced in March 2000. The contract incorporated the provision of a suite of wireless services to the Jordanian telecommunications company including text message services and will offer Internet access to more than 200,000 customers.

Jinny Software’s SMSC technology will allow Fastlink customers to send and receive messages, subscribe to both business and consumer information channels, ‘pull’ this information on demand and also receive email notification. This messaging service is the first of its kind in Jordan, which has a low fixed Internet access, and enables Fastlink to offer 100% penetration to all its wireless Internet subscribers. Jinny Software’s SMSC product, together with WAP services to be offered, is expected to significantly increase Internet usage in Jordan.

An SMSC, once integrated into a network, can guarantee message delivery while interconnecting with other terminals such as PCs, pagers and fax machines. Historically, the primary use of SMS has been to notify users of awaiting voicemail. Today, SMS is the basis for a host of value added services, enabling subscribers to access email, business and entertainment services, such as the recently launched picture messaging and ringing tones on e-merge.ie. SMS is also one of the most important technologies currently available for the widespread deployment of the new WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) services.

By launching an SMSC Fastlink is responding to pressure to deliver additional capacity and services in an increasingly competitive market place. Demand for SMS continues its phenomenal growth across all mobile markets. Three billion SMS Text Messages were sent worldwide in March 2000 alone – this figure is expected to rise to 10 billion per month by year-end. By investing in a solution that guarantees reliable performance, Fastlink is poised to benefit from these exciting new opportunities. The Jinny Software platform also allows Fastlink to offer Web to SMS services and to integrate voice and fax into services offered to their subscribers.

Fastlink is the latest of Jinny’s international customer base, which includes France Telecom Mobile Lebanon (FTML), Philips Consumer Communications, Eircell and Allied Irish Banks (AIB).

Michael Dagher, CEO, Fastlink said: “Working with Jinny on this new generation of services is not only exciting for Fastlink but also for the Jordanian GSM market. We chose Jinny Software because of its ability to provide a reliable platform and the functions critical for the offering of wireless Internet services to our subscribers. With its flexible and scaleable architecture, the Jinny Software platform will enable us to provide a wide variety of messaging services. Jinny Software’s SMSC platform provides our customers with a comfortable growth path as SMS services increasingly become a key differentiator in the shift towards a more data-driven mobile market. Jinny’s international scope also ensures that we have a partner with global experience that is able to provide world class support.”

Roy Zakka, Chairman and CEO, Jinny Software commented on the deal: “This is a landmark deployment for Jinny Software as for Fastlink, the leading national GSM operator in Jordan, establishing Jinny Software as a significant force in wireless technology. We are particularly pleased with this agreement as it allows us to show that we are capable of delivering solutions that can handle the stringent demands of the current and future Jordanian mobile market, one of the fastest growing of all emerging GSM markets. With these post-paid and prepaid SMS services, Fastlink are providing their customers with innovative mobile Internet services, which will be extended to WAP by the end of this year.”
