Jinny Software Appoints Ciaran Carey As Head Of Mobile Commerce

6 July 2000: mCommerce Strategy lauched by Jinny Software with Appointment of Ciaran Carey

Dublin, 6 July 2000: Ciaran Carey has been appointed Head of Jinny Software’s new Mobile Commerce Division where he will be responsible for driving the company's mCommerce strategy. With over 16 years industry expertise, Ciaran is in an excellent position to develop the market opportunities mCommerce and eCommerce technologies present, bringing Jinny Software and its customers to the next level of the Mobile Internet. With this appointment, Jinny Software re-affirms its commitment to the mobile commerce revolution in Ireland, as leaders in wireless technology.

Joining the company from Eircell, Ireland's leading GSM operator, Ciaran held the position of Head of ME Commerce. During his four years with the company, Ciaran was responsible for developing and introducing a number of pioneering initiatives, including:

  • Ireland's first web-based phone shop, Eirshop, which was heralded as the 'eCommerce Site of the Year' at the Irish Business Internet Awards in 1999
  • Eircell's WAP capability, including a link with Baltimore Technologies, to conduct the world's first secure flight booking on January 11, 2000
  • The ENNIS technology trial - a world first in using WAP to securely move cash in a mobile environment
  • eTopUp, a ATM based facility designed for the growing number of prepaid phones in the market
On joining the company, Ciaran said, “I very much look forward to driving the mCommerce strategy forward at Jinny Software, who have quickly established themselves as leaders in the wireless technology space. Our mCommerce strategy will present exciting developments for the wireless revolution internationally and, of course, this is an excellent opportunity for Ireland as an mCommerce hub.”

Prior to joining Eircell, Ciaran spent twelve years within the financial services sector, holding positions in the Bank of Ireland and the Irish Permanent Building Society.

Ciaran gained both a Masters Degree in Financial Control and a Bachelor of Business Studies (Hons) from DCU (Dublin City University).
