Eircell Choose Jinny Software As Wireless Partner Of Choice For Mobile Internet Products And Services

19 July 2000: Jinny Software chosen as preferred wireless and Internet partner to make Eircell one of the first European GSM operator to offer voice based email
Dublin, 19 July 2000: Eircell signed a landmark deal with Jinny Software today which will see the two companies work closely in the future provision of a wider range of wireless products and services. The scope of this agreement is to provide the first European email to voice platform creating greater convenience for people on the move. This will further develop Eircell’s offering of the best technical solutions to its customers at the best value. The agreement was developed and signed by John Kavanagh, Head of Products and Services for Eircell and Brendan McKenna, Chief Technical Officer of Jinny Software.
The agreement will see the two companies work together to continuously decrease the costs of wireless services through improved technical solutions. This agreement is also timely as Jinny celebrates its first year in operations and has been recognised in the industry as consistently first to market.
John Kavanagh, Head of Products and Services said, “We have worked with Jinny Software on a range of projects, and based on this experience we believe that they are the ideal partner to work with to further develop an exciting range of mobile internet products and services."
Brendan McKenna, Chief Technical Officer, Jinny Software, said, “With this deal, Eircell is easily one of the most progressive operators in Europe pushing forward voice based email. Jinny Software has been working with Eircell on much of its messaging and WAP enabled products and we look forward to working with Eircell collaboratively with this agreement in the future.”
Jinny Software has worked with Eircell on a number of products in the past including Eircell’s recently launched e-merge offering which used Jinny’s ‘Etrieve’, ‘listen to your emails’ product. This deal demonstrates Eircell’s commitment to continue to increase value to its subscribers.
Eircell has pioneered several new technologies in Ireland, including Enhanced Full Rate technology for better voice quality: Autowatch, an advanced vehicle security system, Eirshop, Ireland’s first on-line mobile shop and Eircell Information Services, which brings internet information to the mobile phone. This January, the Minister for Public Enterprise Mary O’Rourke TD made the first secure online transaction with an Eircell WAP phone.
